Tournament Formats
*TEE AREA DEFINITION:
All tournament
tees are played from the "NCGA Disks" not the ball markers in the
teeing area (except if noted on the tournament sheet)
REGULAR*:
Our regular tournaments are
played from the BLUE tees*. We include the 85 RULE, if your
handicap plus age is equal to or greater then 85 you may play from
the WHITE tees*.
NCGA "Norcal" Qualifiers*:
Our regular individual
tournament with a side event for those wanting to qualify for one
of the upcoming Northern California Golf Association events.
WPMC is involved with two NCGA qualifiers; Individual qualifier and
2-person best ball. For the individual qualifiers the club
sends four players; top 2 GROSS and top 2 NET scores. For the
2-person best ball qualifier the club sends the team with the top
NET score.
(Also see 2 Person Best Ball)
PRESIDENTS - "MAJOR"*:
This is the first of our WPMC "Majors". The US Open, Masters, etc
were already taken so we named them the "Presidents", "Directors"
and "Club Championship". Play is regular individual stroke.DIRECTORS -
MAJOR*:
This is our second
"Major". Play is regular individual stroke.
CLUB
CHAMPIONSHIP - MAJOR*:
This is the last of our
majors and the most important. This is conducted over two days and
the Low Gross combined score over
the two days is the "Club
Champion". Play is individual stroke with flight winners determined
also over the combined two days.
REGULAR +
SKINS COMPETITION*:
This is a regular
individual stroke play event. There is a side event of a
skins format competition. Rules to qualify for the skins
event are
elsewhere on this website.
2-PERSON BEST BALL*:
This is a team event. Each player on the team plays his or her own
golf ball throughout the round, and on each hole the low
score - or "best ball" - of the group serves as the team score.
Player A gets a 5, B gets a 4,then the team score for that hole
is 4, because the low score of the group was B's 4. For NCGA
Qualifiers, players do not need to play in the same
foursome but teams must be declared before the start of play.
The NCGA Qualifier is a NET score event so player's handicaps are
factored into player's score.
TOURNAMENT CHAIRPERSON'S SURPRISE*:
These are tournaments that our Tournament Chair adds a twist to the
event. Five Club, Red White and Blue and Colored Ball are examples of such twists.5 CLUB*:
This is an event were
the play will be individual stroke but you are only allowed the use
of 5 clubs. Prior to starting you have to remove all but 5 clubs
from your bag. The 5 to be used is entirely up to the player.
COLORED BALL*:
This is an event were
the play will be individual stroke but you must use a colored golf
ball.
COLORED BALL TEAM*:
This is a team event in
addition to the individual flight stroke play.
Each group will be given a colored
ball. This ball will be in play on each hole rotating based upon
handicap. The Colored ball net score will act as the team score.
Winning team will receive an additional prize. Ball must be turned
in with score card for team to qualify. If ball is lost the group is
out of the team competition.
GUEST/MEMBER*:
This has been called
many things with many formats but basically this tournament is were
guests are allowed to enter. The format and structure are defined by
a number of committees formed several months prior to the event.
SUPER BOWL*:
We typically have a tournament on Super Bowl Sunday. The tournament itself is regular
individual stroke play. As a side event, each player is given a
raffle ticket. The last two numbers of the raffle ticket indicate
the score you are assigned. For example let's say your ticket is
number 54321. You will be assigned the number 2 for team "A" and the
number 1 for team "B". The payoff will be end of 1st quarter,
Halftime, end of 3rd quarter and final score.
RED, WHITE
AND BLUE*:
In this tournament you tee off on 6 holes from the red, 6 from white
and 6 from blue. (3 on the front nine, 3 on the back nine) By
playing the different tee's* it changes the course, and you will find
that a hole played normally from the blue tee* is a lot harder from
the red tee*.
TURKEY SHOOT*:
This is a end of the year tournaments
(December & sometimes November). It is a regular individual flight
tournament but the winners in the flights receive a $25 gift
certificate at a local market. |
